LFF - more plotting. Plus some bonus stuff.
OK - this is our shortlist, with times and dates. Bec, Juliet - shall I try to get you tickets to Persepolis?

Kat - sorry! - neither if the ones you liked made it through!

ION, Peter Bradshaw says we should all see this.

I have sent all of you folks who count as watching this a member invite thing, because I keep forgetting to make posts public and you can't see them otherwise.

LFF Longlist
Me and dogrando have made our London Film Festival longlist. This involved leafing through the programme and going 'Ooh! Pretty!' a lot. We have not yet thought about scheduling, or anything sensible like that.

Anywhere, for pretty much entirely mine own reference, here be the list.

long, probably tediousCollapse )

Fun-Hatin' this Sunday

This is yr friendly fun-hatin m'rinder that there is fun-hatin' action this Sunday, at my house.

We are having (sorry hatahs) Lynch and then Lynch. First, Lost Highway, and then the Straight Story.

People who want to watch Lost Highway should be at my house before 16:00. People who want to watch the Straight Story should be at my house after 19:00.

Pizza between the two? From the Very Lovely Pizza Place.

ION, I have a thefted paper copy of the LFF programme and me and dogrando are making a LIST

Please to be letting me know if you plan to come, and which bits you plan to come to.

HatesFun has had a holiday, seemingly
And I declare it to be Now Back Again.

Update: Next HatesFun Fillum Night is nect Tuesday. We will be watching Czech surrealist nonsense.

We should do a watching things thing. My house = fine for this. (The dying cat is still doing a very good impression of a perfectly healthy cat, and I don't think small gatherings will bother her overmuch anyway. She has All Lapsitting Rights, however.) I will make FUD.

I have newly purchased Little Otik on the Young Person's DVD. It could be twinned with some of the Compleat Švankmajer short fillums. (There are two copies of that in Bermondsey alone.)

Lynch-tastic speshul - we have Lost Highway and The Straight Story, but workmate Aanand says that Inland Empire is also out on DVD. (Not all three at once, mind.)

I have Manderlay and Dogville wanting watching, also. Purchased for cheap in Original Fopp.

Other suggestions welcome.

I would like to buy a DVD. I am wavering between Dog Day Afternoon, which is great and hates fun and would make a good viewing, or Plan 9 From Outer Space which loves fun, but could be a special Hatesfun evening (with Ed Wood which I own on old person's VHS).

Cast yr vote! Or something.

Adrienne Shelley
I just found out that one of my favourite actresses Adrienne Shelley died in November. She was killed by a 19 yo immigrant construction worker. She was in Hal Hartley films like "The Unbelievable Truth" and "Trust" and some Hal Hartley shorts, as well as a bunch of other stuff. She also wrote and directed.

Tony Conrad's "Flicker" on Sunday
This is *real* hates fun film - a 30 minute film composed entirely of black and white frames. Showing on Sunday afternoon with some Finnish experimental films and some other Tony Conrad films. Tony Conrad will be there to do a talk as well.

Date/Time: Sunday 03 June, 12.30-4pm (Screening inc break); 4-5pm (reception)
Venue details: Curzon Soho

Bec's verdict: The Ladykillers
Much better than I thought, but does love fun a bit. The ending is lovely. Marlon Wayans is the funniest. There is a fantastic ginger tom named Pickles who has the BEST SCENE EVER in the very end, worth watching for that alone. Tom Hanks' stupid face is annoying but you can't help that.

I have the Ladykilllers
Hello, I have the possibly very bad Cohen Bros version of the Ladykillers coming in the post, likely to be received tonight. Just saying like.

See you this evening!

Cold Mountain
I just watched this film. It very much qualifies for hatesfun! Okay, it has Nicole Kidman, and Renee Zellweger, but Nicole isn't annoying and Renee was really good! And Philip Seymour Hoffman plays a Very Bad Minister. Even Jude 'I live in Primrose Hill and bang my kid's nanny' Law and his stupid face arent' bad, because his stupid face is covered with beard for most of the film and he has a southern accent instead of his stupid regular Jude 'I push a 3-wheel baby buggy in case I need to go off-roading with my infant' Law voice.

And Jack White has a little role and he's very good and there is Jack White singing and good lovely fiddly bluegrass musics. And the executive music producer was T-Bone Burnett.

It is about the civil war and there are lots of really harrowing and horrible scenes and blood and death and guts and misery. It's great! The first half hour kind of drags a bit though.

I demand we watch this film. Taglines: Unfaithful husband, abortion, cannibalism, black comedy, Hong Kong.

Also, as far as the Devil's Backbone - the fascism and death film - I don't mind keeping this but only one person expressed interest (Andrew) and my house isn't really suitable for Hatesfun night, as we only have a tiny TV and not much space for visitors...ideas? Or should I just greedily watch by myself tonight?

We have not decided on a film, other than Not A Lynch One. So Lynch-haters may attend. Film decision is deferred until later. (Although Cronenberg was mentioned as a possibility last night.)

Film suggestions welcome.

I'll make vegan sossidgge rools and experimental vegan sossidge not-rolls and roast potatoes.

Dere hatesfun,

We have CRISIS! The Straight Story isn't available on the young person's DVD, either in ver shops or from Sean's HatesFun rental place. What to do?

The options are:

Substitute another Lynch (we have Eraserhead and Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks S1 (US edition - no pilot).

Watch something else and wait until dogrando gets his paws on The Straight Story for our Lynch Double Bill. (I wd favour this as I've seen most of the other options in the last year.)

And if something else, suggestions here please?

HatesFun Fillum Evening
sbp just accidentally reminded me that we should be watching fillums some evening next week.

Do we want to have a David Lynch double bill, as was suggested?

I will make roasties, and possibly some other nibbles if you're *really* nice to me. *Possibly* I will make vegang sossidge rolls.

What evenings can people manage?
11:17 am
This would be utterly OINKish.
I have discovered that Greenwich Picturehouse *does* list the things in their comfy comfy downstairs nice-wine armchair-tastic screening room. Here!

(I have noticed that Inland Empire is on there next Thursday.)
